Ordering Recommendation

Use to predict the expression of red blood cell (RBC) antigen specificities, aid in the selection of antigen-negative RBCs for transfusion, assess the risk of alloimmune hemolytic disease, or resolve conflicting serologic antibody results. For fetal testing, order Red Blood Cell Antigen Genotyping, Fetal (3016639) using a fetal specimen. This test does not assess for RhD; to test for RhD, refer to RhD Gene (RHD) Copy Number (0051368).

Collect

Lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA).

Specimen Preparation

Transport 3 mL whole blood. (Min: 1 mL)

Unacceptable Conditions

Yellow (ACD solution A or B); plasma or serum. Collection of specimens in sodium heparin tubes. Frozen specimens in glass collection tubes.
